As most of you know, I started my blog (which is why you’re here). Before I officially started it (today), I did some crowd sourcing about what the title of this blog should be. First off, I asked my co-workers, who are way better creative writers than I am. And of course, with no surprise, out came Cheers, Laine and Growing old, not up, along with multiple others. Shout out to my girl Lauren on those.
Anywho, I shared those via social media/text asking which one people liked better. I got yehs and nehs for both and also got some good texts responses, especially from my dad. (See screenshot)
This is where I get my sarcasm. And yes, I asked if Nebraska was a state back in the day.
As I was reading and considering what everyone was saying I started to realize I was wishing for one over the other. Kind of like that saying,
When you need to make a hard decision, flip a coin. Why? Because when that coin is in the air you suddenly know what you’re hoping for.
Ok, this was not a life or death decision, but it was important to me.
Not only did I realize what I, Laine, wanted, but I also started to realize who the eff cared what everyone else wanted. I mean, really? I started this blog for MYSELF. Maybe it’ll resonate with someone else, but ultimately this is something I was doing for me! Something on my bucket list, if you will.
And that’s what life is all about, right? Doing things for YOU. I mean, yeah at some point in time someone else will come in to your life and you will have to do things for them or compromise or whatever people do when they have kids and are in relationships. But the first person you have to make happy is YOU. And if YOU can’t do that, you’ll never be able to make someone else happy, and they’ll never be able to make you happy.
So in my first post, if there’s anything you leave with, let it be to put yourself first. Maybe you can’t do that all the time. But once in a while take time for yourself. Do something you’ve never done before. Do something for YOU and no one else.
If you can do that, you’ve already mastered this thing we call life.
